Trip to Eastern Beach
On Tuesday, the 5th of April Room 13 went to Eastern Beach. We took a trip to the beach because we are learning about how to be a guardian for the environment. We all feel that the environment needs protection and it is our job to protect the environment. The environment is important for all of us and we wanted to be a guardian for the environment by cleaning the beach. During our trip, we participated in three activities. Our first activity was making sandcastles. The second activity was walking through the rocky shore. Our last activity was the beach clean up. Here are some student voices:
"My favourite part was building the sandcastles because I was able to make anything that I liked!" - Felix
"I did find the first crab of the class on the rocky shore. We found a lot of crabs as a class and found that lots of crabs live under big rocks. I also liked building the sandcastles because I am so good at building sandcastles. I loved playing octopus and duck duck goose during lunch." -Layla
"I liked walking on the rocky shore but I did not like when there was a big pile of crabs under the big rocks. Crabs scare me a bit. My favourite part of the trip was probably building the sandcastles because I had so much fun." -Gaby
"I liked building sandcastles because it was fun. My favourite part was walking on the rocky shore because we got to see lots of crabs under the big rocks." -Callie
"I liked making sandcastles and exploring the rocky shore because in the sandpit Felix helped me and we were able to make an actual castle with all the sticks we collect. I also found a crayfish and we made a waterfall. When Felix saw that I put the crayfish in the waterfall, he ran away. It was so funny. I liked exploring the rocky shore because I found five whole families of crabs. There was also one grandpa that I found. IT WAS GIANT!" -Oscar
"I liked building the sandcastles because I made one with doors and gates. My favourite part of the trip was finding lots of crab on the rocky shore. While we were on the rocky shore, I saw the biggest crab. I liked picking up rubbish on the beach because I found a big plastic wrapper." -Zoe
"My favourite part was when we were hunting for some crabs on the rocky shore because we could see how big they were and how small some were. It was fun collecting the rubbish because I like going further on the beach to find more rubbish. I also liked when we were making sandcastles because we could make anything." -Kenneth
"My favourite part was exploring the rocky shore because there was lots of creatures that I saw. The creatures make me a little bit nervous because the crabs feel like they will bite me but they did not. I liked when my mom helped me find a lot of rubbish. We found plastic and rope on the beach." -Jayshaan
"My favourite part was making sandcastles because we dug up a very big hole and water came out of the hole. Together, my group and another group tried to connect our water holes but we ran out of time. But it was so much fun. Also, having my mom on the trip helped me feel more comfortable exploring the rocky shore. She was able to pick up very heavy rocks, under the heavy rocks were lots of crabs. I found the biggest crab of all." -Jacob
"I liked building sandcastles because I was able to build a sandcastle with a basket and a spade. I liked looking at the crabs on the rocky shore. It was cool to see a whole family of crabs under each rock! When I stood on wiggly rocks water came up and washed all the mud off of my shoes. I collected all the rubbish I could and Callie's mom helped me spot the rubbish. When I get my picture taken there were flies all over me." -Alice
"It was my 6th birthday on the day of the trip. My favourite part of the trip was seeing the crabs on the rocky shore. There were a bunch of crabs under the big rocks. Joshie's mom picked up the heavy rocks for us to see all the crabs underneath. IT WAS SO COOL! Instead of making a normal sandcastle, my group and I made a birthday cake. On the birthday cake were sticks to represent the candles and we used shells to make the number six on the cake. I loved getting my pictures taken throughout the day. I liked cleaning up the beach. I found lots of chippie bags on the beach and I made the beach clean by putting the bags in Ms. B's rubbish bag." -Owen
